Our SBHCs are staffed by providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) and nurses, so we can provide many of the same services at our SBHC that we do at our main offices in Mill Creek and Elkins. We’ve listed a few examples below, but if there’s a service you don’t see listed and you want to know if we can do it at our SBHC, give us a call and our SBHC staff will talk to you about it!
Our SBHC services include:
- Well Child Exams - required for kids going into PK/K, 2nd, 7th, or 12th grades
- Vaccinations - we offer 7th & 12th-grade vaccines (Tdap and Menactra), HPV series, COVID-19 vaccine series, Meningitis B vaccine series, and the seasonal Flu vaccine at all our SBHCs
- Free Sports Physicals - We see kids year-round for Sports Physicals and these visits are free of charge! Anytime your child needs a Sports Physical, go to vhcwv.org to fill out the online Sports Physical form. Once completed this online form will go directly to our SBHC staff and they can see your child for a Sports Physical today or the next day they are scheduled to be at your child’s school.
- Chronic Care Visits - If desired, our SBHC providers can become your child’s Primary Care Provider (PCP) and help them manage their asthma, diabetes, depression, etc. Our SBHC providers are also able to send referrals, orders for imaging (x-ray, ultrasound, CT, etc.), and labs. All of our SBHCs are also equipped to do blood draws for lab work, if needed.
- Walk-In Visits - Our SBHC staff can test for UTIs, strep, flu, and COVID-19 (rapid antigen tests and PCRs) at all our SBHCs and can see and follow up with kids for a variety of reasons.
We also provide Nursing Visits at no charge to you or your insurance. These include:
- Basic First Aid (band-aid, nose bleeds, lumps, bumps, etc.)
- Blood Pressure Checks
- Vision & Hearing Screens
- Lice Checks
- Over-the-counter medications - Our enrollment forms include a section that reviews the over-the-counter (OTC) medications we have at our SBHCs. You can individually select which OTCs you would like to be given at the SBHC, if needed. If we don’t have an enrollment form on file for your child, we’ll call you to ask for permission by phone.
Example: A kid comes to SBHC due to a headache, they have no fever and no other complaints but request headache medicine. SBHC staff reviews the kid’s SBHC enrollment form and administers the OTC medication the parent/guardian previously gave permission for the child to have. f no enrollment form is on file for the kid, we will contact the parent/guardian for permission. If we aren’t able to speak to the parent/guardian by phone then we are unable to give the child any medicine and will return them to class.
